We live in a culture that goes after images.
We go after image versus substance. Every commercial or social media ad reminds us, we’re not good enough. Our computer isn’t fast enough. Our phone isn’t “smart” enough. We don’t have the perfect body.
And when you’re bombarded with messages constantly telling you you’re not okay, It’s hard not to absorb it.
There are times when we feel inadequate about something in our lives.
But for many people, that feeling goes deeper-it’s woven into their personal fabric.
Worthlessness defines who they are and how they think others see them.
And without help, these individuals become trapped in a cycle of self-doubt and self-judgment that blocks them from living a fulfilling life.
Hypnotherapy can help by showing us that our feelings fit the facts BUT the facts are wrong.
The first thing you have to do (even prior to hypnotherapy) is to find out if the facts are true. It may be true that you’re not good enough to get that job. And if that’s the case, then your therapist will help you do whatever it is that needs to be done. For example, the therapist will work with you on what skill set you need to get better at in order to obtain this job.
Again, the first thing you have to do is ask yourself, “I’m not good enough for…?”
If you feel it’s true but you’re getting pushback from your pushy therapist, then this is where you can go deeper in Hypnotherapy.
In hypnotherapy, you are going into the memories where these first self-judgements were made. And in a safe environment, you can start to change these memories, real time.
And then once you start to see where the stories originate, you can bring that awareness into your present life. That awareness will help you to separate these feelings from facts.
At the same time, hypnotherapy will bring in new learning that is reinforced over time through suggestions (the recordings I give my clients) and those suggestions are your guideposts, written by you, for how you want to live your life.
Let’s utilize a case study involving Adam. Adam is 35 y/o Male architect who works at a prestigious firm. Adam is creative, intelligent and kind hearted. He has a loving family and is surrounded by people who care for him.
From the outside looking in, it seems that Adam has the perfect life!
What isn’t so apparent is Adam has been fighting with internal demons.
Adam has been suffering from feelings of “not good enough” for most of his adult life. Actually, if you ask him, these feelings of worthlessness started around age 6. Adam came to me because traditional therapy was not working for him. He was constantly in a self-judgment/ shame spiral that would lead to feelings of wanting to harm self.
With the help of hypnotherapy and creative writing, Adam was able to identify the source(s) of his depression, and reconsolidate the memories into more useful memories.
Memories that are more grounded in truth and self-compassion.
Adam’s new learning that came out of the hypnotherapy sessions was, “I am enough.”
