A Writing Challenge

Right now I’m thinking about my decision to join Ship 30 for 30. For me, it started about one year ago. I can’t believe I’m going to write this!  This whole journey started with a Korean American Shaman with business acumen to be exact.  I told her I needed to feel unstuck in my business. She told me, “I see your dead Grandmother.”  I told her I had vivid dreams that played out on a nightly basis. She told me in my former life I was once a successful writer and also a Man!  I told her I don’t write. And her response was, “Oh but you do and you do it well.”

So I listened to this Shaman. She was my kind of different-slightly off center, whimsical, and weird. And I’m grateful for her guidance. For without it, I wouldn’t have jumped into the deep end with writing my origin story. But I’ll save this for another time!

If I really think about it, I’ve been writing or journaling my entire life! Thankfully my writing has evolved from grade school crushes and teenage angst to writing with a different lens- more kindness, self-love and only a hint of angst! Right now, many of my entries consist of writing to my future self-lists of personal and professional goals to pursue for future me.

I will treat Ship 30 for 30 like my very own public journal. Yes, I see how this can go very wrong! In my public journal, I will write about vulnerability and how it has a bad rap.  I will attempt to redefine vulnerability as stories of courage and resilience in the face of uncertainty and emotional exposure.  I will write about addiction recovery. I will write about adaptability: how to stay grounded when the ground is moving.

 I’ve learned the best way to get into a street fight with vulnerability is to show up and face it head on even when you want to run in the opposite direction. So that’s what I’ll be doing for the next 30 days.
